MCEL 2.0 — A History
MCEL 2.0 and MCEL 1.0 are the de-facto standard for electronic log book
for the Marine Corps in Iraq. Originally developed by LCpl Sincioco in January of 2005
for use only in Al Asad, Iraq, it has since quickly spread theater-wide and is
now also in-use in the States by various Marine Corps units.
Why Use MCEL 2.0?
Plain and simple: because it would be foolish otherwise; and more importantly, it's F R E E !
New Installs
Please watch the Installation videos or read the documentation to
properly install MCEL 2.0. Installation generally takes about
5-10 minutes.
Upgrading from Previous Builds of MCEL 2.0
If upgrading from a previous build of MCEL 2.0, go to Add/Remove
Programs in Control Panel and remove the old MCEL 2.0 before
installing the new version. Your data will not be
deleted during the uninstall and upgrade process.
Upgrading from MCEL 1.0
MCEL 2.0 is backwards compatible. Install MCEL 2.0 and copy your
Marine Corps Electronic Log.mdb (your version 1.0 logs) to the
App_Data folder (of MCEL2) and you will be all set.
Multiple MCEL 2.0 in One Server
To run multiple instances of MCEL 2.0, use the Copy-and-Paste
Install method as the installation program will only allow one
install per server.
Here are the basic steps:
- Go to IIS and create a virtual directory.
- Copy all MCEL2 files in this new virtual directory.
- Set the ASP.Net version and the Security.
- Give IIS_WPG permission to the new directory.
Refer to the manual and the installation videos for the details. If
you still have any questions, send me an email. Be sure to provide
your email address so I can respond back.
